Art Therapy

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that incorporates creative expression into the healing process.  The act of art making in the therapeutic setting can offer new ways to explore our emotions, as well as the way we interact with our own self and the world around us.

With this deeper understanding, we can gain insight and tools to foster positive resolution.  In addition, there is a growing body of evidenced-based research that has found that engaging in art therapy can help reduce stress and anxiety, as well as improve overall mood.  Art therapy can be beneficial for individuals of all ages.

 

During an art therapy session, clients may use an array of different mediums, including: Drawing materials, watercolors, acrylics, collage, clay, and fiber content such as yarn and fabric. 

​Art therapy has been proven to make positive changes in the following areas of the client's life:

  • Improving cognitive functioning

  • Improving sensorimotor functioning

  • Fostering self-esteem

  • Fostering self-awareness

  • Cultivating emotional resilience
